The Westchester Regional EMS Council presents

The 39th Annual EMS Awards Ceremony

and Combined Award Event 

 

 Since 1973, beginning with the Westchester County EMS Council and continued by the Westchester Regional EMS Council, time is taken each year to honor those individuals who have contributed to emergency medical services.  Awards are presented to emergency communication specialists, prehospital and hospital providers,  EMS educators and leaders, as well as civilian bystanders.

Nomination Submission

 

All nominees must be submitted to the REMSCO by a regional emergency service agency, 911 Receiving Hospital or Emergency Communications Center.  

Requirements / Suggestions for Applications:

  • NOMINATIONS MUST BE TYPEWRITTEN

  • NOMINATIONS MUST BE ON THE FORM PROVIDED

  • NOMINATIONS MUST BE POSTMARKED bY FEBRUARY 20, 2012

  • Give very concise, specific and detailed accounts of why this individual is being nominated for the award

  • Make sure you have the nominee's name spelled correctly!!!

Basic Life Support Provider of the Year

Criteria:           An individual contribution to the community as a Certified First Responder (CFR) or Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B). Dedication, responsibility, professional behavior, ingenuity, special skill or insight in the EMS environment.

Eligibility:        NYS Certified CFR, EMT-B.

Advanced Life Support Provider of the Year

Criteria:           Contribution to the community as an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate (EMT-I), EMT-Critical Care Technician (EMT-CC), or Paramedic (EMT-P). Dedication, responsibility, professional behavior, ingenuity, special skill or insight in the EMS environment.

Eligibility:        NYS Certified EMT-I, EMT-CC, EMT-P.

EMS Agency of the Year

Criteria:             Any agency which strives for consistency in EMS excellence and exhibits exemplary performance when providing prehospital emergency medical care.

Eligibility:             A NYS certified volunteer or career EMS agency, i.e., NYS certified ambulance service, fire department, police department, hospital emergency department, EMS council, dispatch organization, first responder unit, etc.

EMS Leadership Award

Criteria:             Longevity, innovation/dedication, responsibility, executive and management skills in establishing, maintaining, promoting or expanding EMS organizations, agencies, committees at the community, regional and/or state level.

Eligibility:             EMS Agency leader; local, county, regional, state EMS leader; medical/nursing/or career EMS leader.

EMS Educator of Excellence

Criteria:         Individual who through outstanding teaching, educational administration/coordination, publication or research has maximally improved prehospital services at the local, county, regional or state level.

Eligibility:        EMS Educator or equivalent

EMS Communications Specialist of the Year

Criteria:         Contributions to the EMS community as a call receiving operator, dispatcher or call taker. Dedication, responsibility, professional behavior, ingenuity, special skill or insight to prehospital communications.

Eligibility:        Employed or volunteer with an organized dispatch center in the Westchester Region.

Registered Professional Nurse of Excellence

Criteria:           Contributions to the EMS community as a NYS registered professional Nurse. Dedication, responsibility, professional behavior, ingenuity, special skill or insight in the prehospital environment.

Eligibility:        New York State licensed registered professional nurse serving within the EMS System.

Physician of Excellence

Criteria:           Contributions to the EMS community as a physician. Dedication, responsibility, professional behavior, ingenuity, special skill or insight in the prehospital environment.

Eligibility:        NYS licensed physician serving an EMS system.

EMS Volunteer of the Year

Criteria:           An individual contribution to the community as a Certified First Responder (CFR) or Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B), Intermediate (EMT-I), EMT-Critical Care Technician (EMT-CC), or Paramedic (EMT-P). Dedication, responsibility, professional behavior, ingenuity, special skill or insight in the Volunteer EMS environment.

Eligibility:        NYS Certified CFR, EMT-B, EMT-I, EMT-CC or EMT-P serving in a volunteer agency.

Civilian Award

Criteria:           An individual contribution to the community by a civilian or an off-duty provider, whose selfless act during an emergency medical situation demonstrated commitment to helping his/her fellow man.

Eligibility:        Civilian

Dawson Award
(Will be submitted for the SEMSCO “Commissioner of Health's Award of Excellence in EMS Activities”)

Criteria:             Exceptional contribution to EMS by an individual, broadly affecting the quality of EMS in the region.

Eligibility:          Does not require a Regional agency or facility submission. May be nominated for any other award in the same year. This award may not be given every year. The Council will determine the process of selection.

Youth Provider of the Year
 

Criteria:             Contributions by a 14 to 18 year old individual to the community as a certified first responder (CFR) or first aid certified. For dedication, responsibility, professional behavior, ingenuity, special skill or insight in the EMS community.

Eligibility:          14 to 18 year provider, NYS certified CFR or First Aid and affiliated with a first response agency (EMS, fire, police)
